Episode 4: Bewitched (1964-1972)

January 27th, 2015

In the fourth episode of The Pop Culture Lens podcast, Christopher Olson and CarrieLynn Reinhard are joined by Megan Stemm-Wade, contributor to the Zilch podcast about The Monkees, to discuss the classic American TV sitcom Bewitched (1964-1972). They discuss how the television series subverts notions of feminine roles in the United States in the 1960s, which saw the beginnings of second wave feminism with the sexual revolution and the women's movement as a civil rights issue. The discussion even includes references to the "magic girl" and "grrl revolution" pop cultural phenomena that began in the 1990s as a refutation of the "superwoman" conceptualization of the 1980s.
